Terms of Service

Last updated: September 24, 2026

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of Soma. By creating an account or using Soma, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use Soma.

1. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old to use Soma. By using Soma, you represent that you meet this requirement and that you are using only accounts and credentials you are authorized to access.

2. Your account

  • You are responsible for keeping your credentials secure.
  • You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account.
  • Contact us right away through the Contact page if you believe your account has been compromised.
  • You may not share your account with others or create accounts on behalf of third parties without their consent.

3. Free tier and Soma Premium

Soma has a free tier that includes the dashboard, Canvas sync, the calendar, documents, insights, and the focus timer. AI features require Soma Premium, available at $10.99 USD per month or $28.99 USD every 4 months ($7.25/mo). Soma Premium begins with a 7-day free trial. Starting the trial requires a payment method, and each account can have one free trial. If you cancel before the trial ends you are not charged; otherwise your first payment is taken when the trial ends, and your subscription renews automatically on your chosen billing cycle until you cancel. Soma Premium includes a monthly amount of AI use that resets on your billing date, and the trial includes a smaller amount; when it is used up, AI features pause until the reset, and subscribers can buy a one-time top-up ($2.99 USD) that adds more until then. See our Billing & Subscription page for full details.

4. Refunds

See our Refund Policy for eligibility and how to request a refund.

5. Price changes

We will give you at least 30 days' notice before any price increase, via the email address on your account. If you do not cancel before the price change takes effect, you agree to the new price.

6. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Use Soma for any unlawful purpose or in violation of any applicable laws.
  • Access Canvas, Google, or any other service through Soma using credentials you are not authorized to use.
  • Reverse-engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the source code of Soma (beyond what is publicly available on GitHub under its license).
  • Interfere with or disrupt Soma's infrastructure, servers, or networks.
  • Use automated means (scrapers, bots) to access or interact with Soma without permission.

7. Intellectual property

Soma and its original content, features, and design are owned by or licensed to the Soma project. Your data — tasks, schedules, notes — remains yours. You grant Soma a limited license to store and process your data solely for the purpose of providing the service.

8. Third-party services

Soma integrates with Canvas (via iCal feeds), Google (sign-in and Google Calendar), Anthropic (AI), Supabase, Vercel, and Stripe. Use of those services is subject to their own terms. Soma is not responsible for the availability, accuracy, or actions of third-party services.

Soma's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs to any other app will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. The use of raw or derived user data received from Google Workspace APIs will adhere to the Google User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. We do not use Google user data to train or improve generalized or foundational AI or machine learning models. See Section 5 of our Privacy Policy for full details.

9. Disclaimer of warranties

Soma is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. Soma does not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that AI-generated content will be accurate, complete, or current. You are solely responsible for verifying academic deadlines, grades, and requirements in your school's official systems.

10. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Soma and its owners, contributors, and service providers shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages — including but not limited to missed academic deadlines, lost data, or reliance on AI-generated output — even if advised of the possibility of such damages. In no event shall Soma's total liability to you for all claims exceed the greater of (a) the amount you paid to Soma in the 12 months preceding the claim, or (b) $10 USD.

11. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Soma and its contributors from any claims, damages, or expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your use of the service, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of any third party's rights.

12. Account termination

You may delete your account at any time from Settings → Delete Account. We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms, with or without notice. Upon termination, your access ends and your data is deleted in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

13. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify you of material changes via the email on your account at least 14 days before the changes take effect. Continued use after that date constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.

14. Governing law

These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of California, without regard to its conflict of law provisions. Any disputes arising under these Terms shall be resolved in the courts of California.

15. Severability

If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable, the remaining provisions will remain in full force and effect.
